Lost Lakeland

Thomas Pennant was an eighteenth-century travel writer, antiquary and naturalist. He left Chester near his home in Wales on the 18th of May 1772 and made his way north via Lancaster and Carlisle. Travelling on horseback with a group of friends and servants including his own artist, he was one of the first to explore the Lake Counties. It was a critical time in the literary history of the region: before the Picturesque, before the Romantic poets and before the railways and mass tourism.

Christopher Mitchell was born in Bridlington in 1949. He was educated at the University of Hull where he received a BSc in Zoology and Psychology and an MSc in Psychology.
